Dr. Peterson extends a dogs back leg during an orthopedic evaluation.

Orthopedics

Dr. Peterson has a special interest in orthopedic surgeries. He specializes in ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament or ACL, otherwise known as the Cranial Cruciate Ligament or CCL) reconstruction. ACL injuries are the most common rear leg injuries in dogs of all size and age.

Causes of ACL Injuries

The most common cause of cruciate ligament rupture is excessive internal rotation of the tibia when the joint is partially flexed. This can be the result of trauma or running and planting the hind limbs while the momentum of the body continues to move forward.
